Most tap water contains considerable amounts of chlorine, chloramines, and/or ammonia. These chemicals make the water safe for humans to drink by preventing microorganisms from growing in the drinking water, but these chemicals are toxic to koi, turtles, and invertebrates and must be removed before placing animals in the pond.

Tap water detoxifiers are typically used during the set-up of a new koi pond and when performing monthly partial water changes. Many ammonia and chlorine removers run the risk of being overdosed, which can inhibit the growth of nitrifying bacteria.

Unlike other water detoxifiers that are prone to overdosing by simply pouring “some” into the pond rather than following dosing instructions, DrTim’s Aquatics AquaCleanse cannot be overdosed, will not drastically drop the water’s pH level, and contains no unpleasant odor.
